Faktum vendor Bernhard may sell the street paper in Sweden, but he prefers the sounds of Jamaica, such as ‘Mr Heartless’ by reggae musician Anthony B. “I think it’s a perfect song about homelessness and social exclusion,” says Bernhard. “It really describes the reality for many people.”
Fellow vendor Carlos feels that Carlos Santana’s mesmeric guitar work on ‘Black Magic Woman’ hides a wealth of meaning: “It’s magical, makes me want to dance and makes me believe that tomorrow will be better. For me, it means future love, youthfulness, fertility and innocence. I remember listening to it around the Christmas when I me my former Argentinian wife – a long time ago.”
