In a personal message to the street paper network – expressing his solidarity with its journalists, its frontline staff, its volunteers and its vendors – Pope Francis hails the work being done by street papers to help “the vulnerable and invisible” in the testing circumstances created by COVID-19.

INSP has been celebrating its 25th anniversary all year with events and projects, and sharing stories and memories. With more happening this month and towards the end of the year, INSP spoke to members of the network also celebrating the quarter of a century milestone in 2019 about what has changed and what is to come.

Three Dutch street papers – Amsterdam’s Z!, Utrecht’s Straatnieuws, and Haags Straatnieuws in The Hague – have joined forces to create shared content in each of their publications. The eight-page section, titled STOEP, is just the latest move towards regional collaboration within the street paper network.

The decorations are packed away, resolutions have been made (and already broken!), and the dieting has begun. This can only mean one thing…a new year – and a new batch of street paper covers – is upon us!

There’s support from big name stars featured on this month’s covers – but also stark reminders of why street papers are so necessary for homeless people.
