Pope Francis makes its two years in a row as the subject of the most downloaded story from the INSP News Service, as we are delighted to announce the first winner in the 2017 INSP Awards!
Ahead of next week’s awards ceremony, we are pleased to reveal Scarp de’ tenis has scooped the INSP Special News Service Award, for their exclusive interview with Pope Francis in February 2017.
“We are all extremely proud at Scarp de’ tenis to receive the INSP Special News Service Award,” said Editor Stefano Lampertico. “It is our first [award] but we hope it will not be our last!”
The award is presented each year to the most downloaded article from the News Service.
“Meeting the Pope helped journalists and vendors to grow,” said Stefano. “I cannot help but mention his manner to communicate, his stories of real life which are the same stories we write and tell in our street magazines. It has been a great honour to read the interview in street magazines from all over the world. On behalf of Scarp de’ tenis editorial staff and vendors, I would like to thank INSP for this award very much.”
This is another impressive accolade for Scarp de’ tenis – who are still riding high after their Biagio Agnes award win in June. The winning story was published in 25 street papers across 12 countries.
Dario Edoardo Viganò, Prefect of the Secretariat for Communications of the Holy See, commented on the Vatican’s delight at the award announcement.
He said: “From Holland to Italy, Utrecht to Milan: the cities and countries may change but the content, the winning news, the most published by the street newspapers worldwide is, for the second consecutive year, an interview with Pope Francis. After Straatnieuws, it’s Scarp de’ tenis’ turn to receive this extraordinary Oscar, the Special News Service Award from INSP. Nice work and congratulations!”
The 2017 INSP Awards will be presented on Wednesday 23 August at The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, UK as part of the Global Street Paper Summit. All other winners will be revealed on the night.
Our congratulations go to Stefano and the Scarp de’ tenis team!
