Several street papers in the INSP network have noticed a rise in printing and publishing costs affecting their organisations. INSP spoke to Maja Ravanska, project manager and managing editor of North Macedonian street paper Lice v Lice, about the cost and environmental implications of having a print product in the modern day and how that affects the concept of a street paper.

Everyone who is a part of the global street paper network knows what a street paper is – that extends to the staff that put each publication together and those who buy them. But the people who truly know what a street paper is – what it means – are those who sell them. Here, a collection of street paper vendors – from North Macedonia to Canada – tell us, in their own words, what a street paper is, personally to them.

INSP compiled the thoughts of those who sell street papers – made up of some of society’s most marginalised people – on how climate change, environmental disaster and extreme weather affects their everyday lives.

Lice v Lice vendors walked the corridors of power within the Assembly of North Macedonia for a special meeting with the country’s president Stevo Pendarovski, and motion by lawmakers to recognise the street paper’s work, to mark #VendorWeek.

To mark the end of INSP’s 25th anniversary year, we have been asking vendors across the street paper network to write a letter to their 25-year-old self. Lice v Lice vendor Hasan – who otherwise goes as Hari – writes about some of the life-changing events he has experienced.

Macedonian street paper Lice v Lice got in on the #VendorWeek 2019 celebrations with a number of coinciding activities culminating in members of the Macedonian Assembly selling magazines on the streets with vendors.

2019 is well and truly underway, and the new year has brought with it an impressive array of street paper covers to cast the winter blues away!

This year we asked vendors: if you could give a song as a present this Christmas, what would you choose? The result was the INSP Vendor Playlist, which is now available for your listening pleasure. A song by a former Eurovision star “awakens beautiful memories” for Lice v Lice vendor Kristijan.

Last year, Lice v Lice featured the story of one of its vendors, Tunan Sadik, and stated that he was “one of those people who succeed in their lives”. Less than a year later, Tunan has used his success as a magazine vendor to provide a better home for himself and for the rest of his family. We visited him at home in the Shutka neighbourhood of Skopje to find out more.

INSP was pleased to offer a series of scholarships to support 14 delegates from 9 countries in attending the Global Street Paper Summit that took place in our home city of Glasgow in August.

We’re continuing with our 2018 INSP Awards announcements, and today we’re revealing the Top 10 Entries for Best Cultural Feature.

The ONE Festival of Homeless Arts showcases and celebrates works of art, in a variety of mediums, imagined and created by people who have experienced homelessness. Curated and compiled by artist and campaigner David Tovey, the exhibition at the Diorama Arts Centre kicked off its second instalment on World Homeless Day.
