Manchester welcomes international delegates to the 2017 INSP Global Street Paper Summit

INSP launched the 2017 instalment of the Global Street Paper Summit in Manchester on Monday alongside hosts Big Issue North.

Welcoming an impressive 127 delegates from 54 street papers across 28 different countries, the summit provides an annual opportunity for members to get together to discuss all things street paper related, as well as a chance to meet like-minded individuals passionate about the street paper movement.

This year, they also have the chance to experience what the city of Manchester has to offer, and learn about the Mancunian approach to homelessness, social enterprise and community development.

The week’s events and activities got off to a smooth and successful start, with delegates having the opportunity to visit the offices of Big Issue North to learn more about the production and distribution of the magazine. Later in the day, a group of delegates were led on a walking tour of the city to gain a greater insight into its history and culture.

A busy day was rounded off with two big events at Manchester Town Hall.

‘UNCOVERED: still homeless, still an issue’, an exhibition celebrating outstanding street paper design, opened and will be on display at the iconic building throughout the week. It is the first ever showcase of international street paper cover art and was previously shown in Glasgow and visited by more than 13,000 people.

And finally, a Civic Reception, welcoming delegates to the city, was hosted at the Town Hall and presided over by the city’s Lord Mayor.
