Hot off the press: A round-up of summer street paper covers

We’re gearing up to welcome street papers from around the world to INSP’s home city of Glasgow, for the 2018 Global Street Paper Summit.

As preparations to an action-packed agenda are finalised, we’re taking a moment to look back on the street paper covers that have had us jumping for joy during July.

In three weeks’ time we’ll also be crowning the 2018 winners of the INSP Awards. Who will scoop Best Cover? Keep an eye on INSP’s social channels next week when we announce the five finalists!

Read on for a summery summary of July’s front pages…

Cover Highlights:

Summer has inspired several covers across the network this month, with the warm weather bringing about some red hot covers. StreetWise and The Big Issue (UK) served us some gelato goodness, looking at the Taste of Chicago food event and President Trump’s “Flake News” respectively. Asphalt‘s bucket and spade dug up issues around climate change and flooding. And Denver Voice encouraged us to get out and enjoy the sunshine on one of their city walking tours.

And with the rise in temperatures, we’ve also seen some street papers cool down and take a dip into some watery covers. Nota Bene set sail with an issue dedicated to all things seaworthy. Toledo Streets waged Water Wars, with a cover story about water issues affecting Toledo and its suburbs. And zebra. took us to the beach to celebrate the beauty of the human body in all its shapes and sizes.

Street paper covers can be works of art in their own right, and there’s been some impressive illustrations on the covers during July. Sorgenfri used a piece of graffiti art by a local artist as their front (and back) page, which also displays at their office in Trondheim. The latest issue of Factor S was a homelessness special, and the striking cover sketch proved popular with passers-by. And The Curbside Chronicle peddled their Bike Issue, looking at the cycling culture that is growing in Oklahoma.

Look back on our covers series here, and keep an eye out for the next round-up of covers coming at the end of next month.
