2019 is well and truly underway, and the new year has brought with it an impressive array of street paper covers to cast the winter blues away!
As we gear up to celebrate #VendorWeek next week, don’t forget to look out for special #VendorWeek editions being sold by vendors in your area, and join us in celebrating the 9,000 vendors out there selling at any one time, in 35 countries worldwide.
Read on to discover our highlights from the street paper front pages on sale during January.
Cover Highlights:
2019 has already brought with it some exciting changes and covers to the street paper network. The Big Issue (UK) printed their first ever augmented reality edition – a first for the street paper movement as a whole. The Big Issue Japan celebrated their 350th edition with a showcase of their previous covers. Sorgenfri and FiftyFifty presented brand new looks for 2019. And we were delighted to welcome a new INSP member at the end of last year – Hungarian street paper Fedél Nélkül.
StreetWise took us exploring the Chicago Pedway – a network of sub-terrain tunnels connecting downtown parts of the city. Street Roots told the story of Portland’s oldest neighbourhood – ‘The Original Downtown’. And Strassenkreuzer gave us their “issue against prejudices” – telling the story of bikers disproving their “tough guy” stereotype and engaging in charitable work.
And there’s been some eye-catching artwork and illustrations on the covers of street papers during January too. A cracking cartoon of Dolly Parton brought The Contributor‘s latest issue to life. A snowy Lice v Lice addressed the theme of sustainable leadership. And Real Change gave us a scream with a cover story about Seattle pop artist Vikram Madan.
Look back on our covers series from 2018 and earlier here, and keep an eye out for the next round-up coming in late February.
