Cabinet Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities Angela Constance has expressed pride in Scotland-based charity INSP’s place in the global social enterprise movement.
The Scottish Minister was speaking ahead of the preview event of INSP’s new exhibition UNCOVERED: still homeless, still an issue, which launches this week as part of #VendorWeek.
Constance will speak at the preview on Thursday night at the Lighthouse in Glasgow.
“Street papers are part of a growing global social enterprise movement and we should all be proud that INSP (International Network of Street Papers) is based here in Scotland,” she said.
“It’s great to be invited to the launch of this exhibition, the first of its kind anywhere in the world, and admire the creativity and professionalism of the people behind street papers.”
UNCOVERED reveals the stories, creativity and people behind the global street paper movement. It was created in partnership with ideas agency Equator.
Street papers are life-changing social businesses that offer people facing homelessness and unemployment a way to make a living.
Constance added that the Scottish government was committed to backing social enterprise.
“Scotland’s status as a social enterprise world leader is down to the ambition and ingenuity of our social entrepreneurs and our unique system of support for the sector.
“The sector’s activities go hand-in-hand with this government’s aims of inclusive growth, tackling poverty and inequality and creating a fairer Scotland and our Social Enterprise Strategy, the country’s first dedicated long term plan for growing social enterprise, will direct our action in the sector over the next decade.”
